TFR's debut event, Jakarta Doodle Fest, was successfully held for three days!

Entering the 5th year of TFR's founding, as an online media that focuses on highlighting various developments in the creative industry in Indonesia and globally, TFR feels it is time to present an event that celebrates its strongest community: the visual arts community.

So here comes the Jakarta Doodle Fest (JDF)! A visual arts celebration which was held on 27-29 October. The first TFR event was held at M Bloc Space, South Jakarta.

"If you look at the TFR community, the majority comes from the fields of DKV, illustration, animation, comics, and many of them already have their own products or brands," said Christine Laifa, co-founder of TFR and JDF. With the support of this community, it is hoped that JDF can become a showcase event for visual arts creators to introduce their work to the general public.

What is not widely known is that visual arts has a wide scope. Starting from products to derivatives such as intellectual property or IP. All of them have a place in the JDF, and are highlighted in various series of events.

The spirit of collaboration was echoed in this event, considering that in its planning and implementation, TFR involved many artists and various communities to enliven JDF.

First, TFR collaborated with artist Muklay the Artistic Director. Then, a Board of Doodlers (BoD) was also formed, which consisted of a number of artists and designers who were successful in their respective fields, such as Mohammad Taufiq (Emte), Senikanji, Alvin Hariz, Diela Maharani, and many more. These figures provide invaluable insights and connections for TFR in building its first event, so that it remains relevant to related industries.

Three days of non-stop fun, attended by 13,000 visitors!

It was recorded that in the three days of its implementation, the JDF was attended by approximately 13,000 visitors! Whether they were there to shop at the art market, or take part in various special activities at JDF. This shows that there is public interest in events that promote visual arts.

Many events at JDF were open to the public, ranging from art markets (with products in the form of accessories, toys, books and comics, merchandise, prints and posters), exhibitions, art installations, to speaker sessions, workshops and performances.

Apart from that, participation from sponsors, POCO and BCA, also enlivened this visual arts celebration. POCO with a digital campaign, speaker session and cosplay party with Kaiju Bop, and BCA with a digital campaign and art installation in collaboration with five artists.

Andi Renreng, Associate Director Marketing POCO Indonesia said, "We are very proud of the collaboration with TFR through the Jakarta Doodle Fest (JDF), which has provided a platform for local visual artists. I believe every individual has their own talents and uniqueness. I am really amazed by the extraordinary work of my fellow artists."

Andi revealed that this is in line with the spirit of #POCOnyaBeraksi which always encourages young people to "take real steps towards success, dare to face challenges, innovate, go beyond self-limitations, and reach their full potential, so that they can "act" and achieve what they dream of.”

Meanwhile, the QR art installation supported by BCA collaborates with five local artists from various backgrounds, namely Muklay, Mandy CJ who is also the co-founder of TFR and JDF, Varsam Kurnia, Kathrin Honesta, and Haiza Putti. Apart from reviewing the creative process, this installation also highlights how various myBCA features support their work.

"We realize that art lovers, especially doodle art, are increasing and growing nowadays, and are getting a positive response from the public," said Norisa Saifuddin, Senior Vice President of BCA.

Visitors who wanted to learn more deeply about various aspects of visual arts could take part in a series of speaker sessions and workshops at JDF. In developing some of the classes, JDF collaborated with ADGI (Association of Indonesian Graphic Designers) Classroom and Bumilangit to curate interesting and relevant sessions for visual arts activists.

Taking advantage of the weekend and Halloween excitement, JDF closed the first two days with two exciting events. Namely "Awesome Karaoke like it's 2010" with Mari Party on the first day (27/10) and a cosplay party with Kaiju Bop supported by POCO on the second day (28/10). On the last day, the audience was entertained by a special performance from the Tuturupa Theater which was welcomed very enthusiastically by the visitors.

The long road to JDF 2023, will return in 2024

Before the main event, JDF held a series of pre-event events. Starting from the Art School Roadshow in Jakarta and Bandung, Doodlers Gathering at the MACAN Museum and Creator Speed Dating at The Goods Dept.

This series of activations was carried out in collaboration with various parties, including sponsors JDF, POCO and BCA, as well as collaborators, namely Museum MACAN, ADGI, Bandung Institute of Technology, Sampoerna University and Bumilangit. Likewise, support from JDF brand partners, namely 101 Hotels (official hotel partner), CocoClub (official beverage partner), HelloBill (POS partner), COPIC, Dripink, Ekamant, Taiyo, PT Deli, Indaco, SDI ZRM, and Beet Beauty.
