2 Indonesian youths compete in international architecture and design event

Angelica Ayu Laras Kinanti and Daniel Jansen Harianto will represent Indonesia in the "Asia Young Designer Awards" or AYDA.

The two youths represented Indonesia in the same event last year and won the AYDA Gold Winners. This year, the event will be held in June-July 2022.

As reported by Viva (23 June), Angelica is a student of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and will compete in the category of Interior Design with her work “Traditional Medicine Centre (RAMU)”. Daniel is from UNIKA Soegijapranata and will compete in the category of Architecture with his work “Smoked County Relish” which will compete with 16 other countries.

This time, AYDA carries the theme "Forward: Amplifying Empathy through Design". The theme invites the participants to create designs that are tailored to the needs of the residents while at the same time maintaining the balance of nature.

Countries that will compete at the AYDA Awards 2022 are Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam. 

National Winners or Gold Winners from each country will compete for the title "AYDA of the Year 2022" which will be announced on 7 July. This event will take place in Penang, Malaysia in an exclusive awards ceremony.

The Grand Finals of AYDA Awards 2021/2022 will involve several world-renowned architects and designers as judges, such as Paul Noritaka Tange, Ezumi Harzani Ismail, Lea Aviliani Aziz and Sami Savatli.

Winner of the "Platinum Award AYDA International Awards" for the categories of Architecture and Interior Design will receive a 3-week scholarship programme at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) in Boston, Massachusetts, United States worth $10,000 or around Rp148 million.

Since 2008, AYDA has become a platform for young designers to showcase their talents and abilities, and to gain international recognition.
