Only 29% of Indonesians are familiar with the metaverse

A survey by Populix found that only 29% of Indonesians are familiar with the metaverse.

"According to the Populix survey, only 29% of respondents are familiar with the metaverse concept, while 48% of respondents express doubt and 23% say they are not familiar," wrote the survey, which is titled “Social Media Habit and the Internet”.

However, the level of public interest in joining the metaverse is high, standing at 93%. The reasons that encourage them to join the metaverse are wanting to experience a different way of socialising as well as seeking new marketing opportunities.

This can be seen from the proportion of 44% of respondents who projected that the metaverse will become a more advanced social media platform. As many as 43% of respondents stated that the metaverse provides a new way to communicate with more sophisticated technology.

In addition, 42% of respondents said the metaverse could open up new marketing opportunities. This is followed by 35% of respondents who think that the metaverse can improve the quality of education with unlimited experience.

Furthermore, the metaverse offers various activities. Virtual tours around the world are the most attractive with 44% popularity, followed by online school from home with 34% and online shopping at shopping centres with 34%.

The survey was conducted online from 30 March to 1 April 2022 through the Populix application on 1,023 respondents consisting of men and women aged 18-55 years in Indonesia. The majority of respondents are unmarried and have entered the workforce.
