Team Spotindev consisting of two students from Gadjah Mada University (UGM), namely Stephanie Dame Augustine dan Tsania Maulina Salsabilla, will represent Indonesia in ASEAN Data Science Explorers (ASEAN DSE) 2021 regional round.

In this project, Team Spotindev offers a platform called SASSH where people can sort, sell, donate, or rework their unused wardrobe. Through this, they hope they could increase the awareness about sustainable fashion and to manage textile waste by utilising digital technology.

This news was announced by the ASEAN Foundation after Team Spotindev won first place in the national round. The second and third place are occupied by Team Abraca-Data and Team Beauty of Data, both from Binus University.

ASEAN DSE this year focuses on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that target climate and sustainability. Team Spotindev carried out a project about bridging sustainable fashion in the ASEAN society.

“We also want to promote the concept of a circular economy and slow fashion culture in society to reduce the impact of fast fashion on the environment," said Tsania Maulima Salsabila from Team Spotindev.

“We realise that plastic is not the only source of the current environmental problems. In fact, most of us do not realise that textile waste has such a big role in this issue and it occupies the second place in terms of waste that contributes to carbon pollution.”

Tsania also explained that they “would like to accelerate the implementation of the circular fashion economy in ASEAN”.

“Our main focus is to extend the life of garments so they could last longer. In this initiative, we are doing so by selling, buying, and donating them. We will also distribute clothes that are no longer in great condition to organisations who have recycling services,” said Team Spotindev.

ASEAN DSE is an initiative that was launched in 2017 with the aim to increase the 10 ASEAN countries’ digital literacy and cultivate a greater sense of responsibility and ownership of the region’s future.

Participating teams are required to design an innovative and practicable solution based on data-driven insights by utilising SAP software to tackle socio-economic issues in ASEAN across the six selected SDGs.

“We are very impressed to see so many talented youths presenting innovative data-driven proposals today. We believe that if given the opportunity, our ASEAN youth can create impactful solutions for the community to prosper. We also hope that the collaboration between ASEAN Foundation and SAP can inspire more public-private partnerships in the future to support the development of our future generation,” said Dr. Yang Mee Eng, ASEAN Foundation Executive Director.
