First term of Indonesia Menuju Broadway 2021 commences this November

The first term of “Indonesia Menuju Broadway: Online & Offline Musical Theater Conservatory” commences this November. 97 young artists participate in this programme, where they receive training to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to perform on stage, such as acting, vocal and dance, in accordance with the international broadway standard.

“We notice that all selected participants in this programme are very enthusiastic and proactive in participating in the series of activities as well as when studying the materials provided by the trainers. Hopefully the pandemic conditions can improve soon so that the participants can meet the trainers directly with strict health protocols,” said Indonesia Kaya Programme Director Renitasari Adrian.

“The series of activities started with a virtual Orientation Day, giving the participants a chance to get to know the international coaches and local instructors. We also shared the important preparations that should be done before participating in the Online & Offline Musical Theater Conservatory programme,” Renitasari added

The participants will be trained by international coaches, such as Amy Weinstein (master teacher - musical theatre performance/acting); Stephen Brotebeck (master teacher - musical theatre dance styles); and coaches from Passport to Broadway Seth Weinstein and Catherine Vaughn. Weinstein and Vaughn are the ones who provide training videos for the participants to practice prior to the weekly classes held every Saturday that will be guided by local instructors.

One of the local instructors, Ayu Gurnitha who teaches traditional dance, said that at the beginning of the programme, participants first study technical matters, such as the basic technique of Broadway. This is considered as an important foundation needed for the Online & Offline Musical Theater Conservatory programme. Ayu is an alumnus of Indonesia Menuju Broadway 2019.

“Although currently all classes are still online, the participants continue to attend the class with enthusiasm. Also, the classes are particularly designed to further explore, improve and maximise their talents,” she added.

The first term of Indonesia Towards Broadway 2021 will complete on 23 January 2022. It will be followed by the second term from 24 January to 17 April 2022. The third term will be held on 30 May until 20 June 2022 and the offline intensive classes will begin in October 2022.
