Warkopi officially disbanded

Warkopi group has officially disbanded on 13 October. The group, which consisted of Alfin Dwi Krisnandi, Alfred Dimas Kusnandi and Sepriadi Chaniago, will continue to work in the entertainment industry, but with a new group name.

“Under the direction of Warkop DKI Institute, as stated by Mas Satrio, Mbak Hana and Om Indro, we must immediately change the [group’s] name,” said Warkopi management staff Aly Julys, as reported by Kompas.com.

Satrio Dono, son of the late comedian Dono also requested that Warkopi change their name within 7 days from 6 October. The new group name as well as the group’s new brand image are still under discussion.

Warkop DKI Institute as the holder of the exclusive legal right to the brand and the name of Warung Kopi Dono Kasino Indro (Warkop DKI) also warned Warkopi not to use names featuring Warkopi anymore.

Despite the polemic between Warkop DKI and Warkopi, Indro Warkop spoke up and gave his support. He sees great potential in Warkopi members, so he hopes they can work creatively without being associated with Warkop DKI.

“Believe me, you have to be yourself. No one imitates to be successful. Artists are impossible to be replaced and living under someone’s shadow will not be as successful as you think,” Indro said.

“I encourage you to be creative. Moreover, if you like to joke, it is an asset. If netizens say it is similar, that is because you took the similar path,” he added. Indro also said that he’s very open if ex-Warkopi members would like to contact him and share experience.
