Just like fast fashion, beauty dupes are created to mimic high-end beauty products. Both share the same definition but they are certainly perceived differently. Beauty gurus often compare quality of high-end make-up and its dupes on their YouTube videos. Fast fashion, on the other hand, is frowned upon.

The expectation is higher for fashion because when it comes to design, there seems to be limitless ways of incorporating elements of fabric, techniques, and finishing. Beauty, on the other hand, has limits on shades and types of products.

Brands can have the same shade of pink but it will not be considered as knocking off other brands since it is almost impossible to invent new colour. The existing colours are the result of combining three primary colours. Chemical to produce beauty products is de facto in effort to achieve certain texture or finishing.

Being inspired or creating knockoffs, to say frankly, will never stop. There will always be customers who demand good quality products within their budgets. At least, packaging and art direction of make-up or skincare could be different, including visual identity of a brand.
